High mountain and glacier courses in the Dolomites

Mountain guide Andy Schäfer teaches you the basic techniques and how to use crampons, ice axes and other essential equipment required for high alpine and glaciated terrain.

High alpine tours are tours that start at an altitude of over 3,000 m with year-round ice and snow cover. In glaciated terrain, due to the risk of falling into crevasses, the use of ropes, crampons and ice axes and the knowledge of specific safety and rescue techniques are essential. On my high-altitude touring courses, I will get you ready for the glacier! You will learn the techniques and get to use the equipment for crevasse rescue, we will practise walking with crampons and braking falls. We’ll also learn about appropriate materials for the mountains, how to deal with the weather conditions and the best way to plan your routes.
