High alpine routes require specialist knowledge, equipment and preparation. We’ve got a lot to cover in my basic course in crevasse rescue on Marmolada! Among other things, we’ll learn how to rope up on the glacier, how to build a belay station in snow and ice, how to break falls and how to walk safely with crampons. Knowing how to independently carry out a crevasse rescue is an issue close to my heart, and it’s important to me to share the basic knowledge of survival in these conditions with my students.
