The extremely long and moderately difficult via ferrata on Punta Penia, which is the highest peak of the Marmolada (3,343 m), was opened in 1903 and is one of the oldest via ferratas in the Dolomites. This tour up to the ‘Queen of the Dolomites’ is particularly impressive because of the glacier on the north side and the vertically inclined south face. The ascent along the western ridge is the perfect mix of a via ferrata and a glacier tour. After a well-deserved rest with a breathtaking 360° panoramic view, the descent follows the normal route of the glacier back to the Fedaia Pass.
